About the Role
This is a varied and customer-facing position combining trade counter sales, customer service, and proactive sales activity. You will be a key point of contact for trade customers, delivering expert advice, processing sales efficiently, and supporting business growth through relationship building and product promotion. The role offers strong opportunities for development within a successful independent merchant business.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver excellent customer service at the trade counter, advising customers on products.
Accurately process sales transactions, manage account queries, and handle telephone and email enquiries.
Build and maintain strong relationships with trade customers to encourage repeat business and account growth.
Proactively identify upselling opportunities, promote new products, special offers, and seasonal promotions.
Support external customer engagement where required, including site visits and contractor relationships.
Maintain strong product knowledge and awareness of industry trends and competitor activity.
Assist with stock control, merchandising, and maintaining an organised, well-presented trade counter.
Collaborate with branch colleagues to ensure a seamless customer experience across sales, service, and deliveries.
Requirements / Skills:
Previous experience within a merchant or trade environment is preferred.
Basic to strong knowledge of builders' merchant products.
Excellent customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Sales-focused, proactive, and comfortable working towards targets and promotions.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced branch environment.
