Overview
We are looking for a dental nurse to provide support to the dental team, caring for patients with additional needs. You will work across multiple clinics in East Sussex and may be required to travel independently to all sites, sometimes at short notice.
Responsibilities
* Receive patients and prepare them for treatment, considering any disability or special need, including adaptation of the dental surgery environment for wheelchair users when needed.
* Provide patient with appropriate infection control and health & safety measures, such as protective goggles.
* Chart and record patients\' dental health requirements on patient\'s dental notes as instructed by clinicians.
* Assist during treatment by using relevant equipment and techniques to ensure procedures are carried out safely, efficiently and effectively.
* Provide appropriate operative support including soft tissue retraction and aspiration during dental procedures.
* Prepare and scan intra-oral radiographs taken by clinicians and maintain accurate record of radiographs.
* Know Local Rules in relation to Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.
* Mix and accurately prepare clinical materials, using specific guidelines for each material as requested by clinicians for use in patient treatment.
* Care for the patient before and during treatment by providing emotional empathy and appropriate psychological support; consider any disability or special need at the end of the treatment session.
* Provide appropriate emotional support to the clinician to help in managing stressful clinical situations.
* Support and liaise with patient, parent/carer and clinical operator over future treatment plan and appointments.
* Demonstrate accuracy and speed to provide a safe, efficient and effective service.
Qualifications and requirements
* GDC registered and at least 2 years post-qualification experience in special care or general dentistry.
* Ability to travel independently to all sites across East Sussex, sometimes at short notice.
* Car owner (or access to a car) and current driving licence are essential.
* Enhanced DBS check required.
* Experience of working with patients with additional needs is desirable but not essential.
