Quantum Scholars are proud to be supporting a dynamic Pupil Referral Unit in Berkshire, who are seeking a dedicated HLTA to join their team as soon as possible for an initial one-term placement.
This rewarding role offers flexibility, with full-time or part-time (3 days per week) options available. The successful candidate will feel confident leading engaging sessions and providing tailored support to a small group of learners(1 or 2 students in a group)
You will play a key role in supporting two students within a focused group setting, helping to create a positive and nurturing learning environment.
Requirements
HLTA status or equivalent qualification
(e.g., completion of an HLTA preparation course or relevant Level 4/5 teaching assistant qualification)
Strong experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally in UK schools
Confidence in leading small group and whole-class sessions in the teacher's absence
Good literacy and numeracy skills, usually at Level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and Maths)
Understanding of the national curriculum and ability to support differentiated learning
Experience working with students with additional needs, behavioural needs, or in alternative provision (particularly relevant for a PRU)
Strong behaviour-management skills and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A valid DBS check or willingness to obtain one
Lead small-group or whole-class learning sessions in the teacher's absence
Responsibilities
Provide targeted support to students with additional, behavioural, or social-emotional needs
Assist in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities
Support pupils in managing behaviour and developing positive learning habits
Build strong, supportive relationships to help students re-engage with education
Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
Prepare learning resources and help maintain an organised classroom environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
Contribute to safeguarding and promote the welfare of all pupils
