Company Description

DOC Cleaning Limited is a family-owned commercial cleaning provider established in 1972, with a long-standing reputation for reliability and quality. The company manages a national portfolio that includes heritage sites, mixed use properties, corporate offices and buildings. DOC Cleaning combines traditional family values with modern practices to deliver consistent, professional services tailored to diverse client needs. The organisation is committed to responsible business practices and continuous improvement across its operations. Team members join a supportive, people-focused culture with opportunities to contribute to sustainable growth.

Main Job Role

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading and delivering DOC Cleaning’s Beyond Cleaning sustainability strategy across both company operations and client contracts.

The role combines strategic responsibility with practical operational delivery, ensuring sustainability objectives are translated into measurable outcomes across our business and client portfolio.

Working closely with operational teams, clients, suppliers and stakeholders, the Sustainability Manager will drive improvements in environmental performance, carbon reduction, social value, waste management and responsible procurement whilst maintaining key accreditations and supporting business growth through innovative sustainability solutions.

The role is highly operational and client facing, involving regular site visits, stakeholder engagement, performance reviews, auditing, reporting and the development of practical sustainability initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes for both DOC Cleaning and its clients. This position will act as the company’s lead representative for sustainability matters and will be responsible for driving sustainability performance across all contracts.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • The Sustainability Manager will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of DOC Cleaning’s Beyond Cleaning sustainability strategy, ensuring that sustainability objectives are embedded throughout the business and reflected in the services delivered to clients. The role will work closely with operational, commercial and support departments to coordinate sustainability initiatives, monitor progress against targets and ensure that commitments are translated into practical actions and measurable outcomes.

  • A key responsibility of the role will be supporting client contracts through the delivery of sustainability programmes and environmental improvement initiatives. This will involve conducting sustainability reviews and audits across client sites, developing site specific sustainability improvement plans and working with operational teams to implement initiatives that reduce environmental impact and increase social value. The Sustainability Manager will regularly engage with property managers, facilities teams and client stakeholders, presenting sustainability performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting clients in achieving their own environmental, social and governance objectives.

  • The role will take ownership of DOC Cleaning’s carbon management programme, including annual carbon footprint measurement, reporting and reduction activities. The Sustainability Manager will manage Carbon Neutral accreditation and associated reporting requirements, whilst developing and implementing carbon reduction plans that support the company’s Net Zero ambitions. Working closely with suppliers and operational teams, the role will identify opportunities to reduce Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and improve environmental performance throughout the business.

  • The Sustainability Manager will be responsible for the collection, validation, analysis and reporting of sustainability data from across the business and supply chain, including environmental, social value and operational performance metrics. This will include managing data received from suppliers, waste contractors and procurement partners, ensuring information is accurate, meaningful and used to drive continuous improvement. The role will identify trends, opportunities and areas of concern, producing regular reports and recommendations for both internal stakeholders and clients.

  • The Sustainability Manager will establish, monitor and report against sustainability objectives, key performance indicators and improvement targets across environmental, social value and governance activities. This will include ownership of carbon reduction targets, waste diversion and recycling targets, social value commitments, volunteering initiatives and other sustainability measures agreed with clients or set within DOC Cleaning’s Beyond Cleaning strategy. The role will work with operational teams to ensure targets are understood, embedded within service delivery and regularly reviewed to drive measurable improvements and demonstrate positive outcomes.

  • The Sustainability Manager will act as the operational lead for environmental management systems, supporting compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 requirements and ensuring that all associated policies, objectives and procedures are maintained. The role will coordinate internal and external audits, maintain sustainability records and support the retention of relevant environmental accreditations and certifications. Monitoring changes in legislation, industry standards and client requirements will also form an important part of the position.

  • The role will work closely with suppliers to promote responsible procurement and sustainable supply chain practices. Responsibilities will include managing supplier sustainability assessments, supporting the development and implementation of the Supplier Code of Conduct, promoting ethical purchasing principles and identifying innovative products and services that contribute to environmental improvements and carbon reduction objectives.

  • Employee engagement and education will also form a core part of the role. The Sustainability Manager will develop and deliver sustainability training, awareness campaigns and educational materials to support the creation of a positive sustainability culture throughout the business. Working alongside operational managers and the People & Culture team, the role will encourage employee participation in sustainability initiatives, social value programmes and community engagement activities.

  • Innovation and continuous improvement will be central to the position. The Sustainability Manager will research, evaluate and implement new technologies, products and working practices that support environmental improvement and operational efficiency. This will include participating in innovation focus groups, conducting product and technology trials and developing case studies that demonstrate the value and impact of sustainability initiatives delivered across the business and client portfolio.

  • The Sustainability Manager will also support the Commercial Department by contributing to tender submissions, client presentations and business development opportunities. This will include preparing sustainability responses for bids, supporting responses to client ESG questionnaires, developing sustainability case studies and assisting in demonstrating DOC Cleaning’s environmental and social value credentials during procurement processes. The role will work closely with commercial and operational teams to ensure sustainability remains a key differentiator within the company’s growth strategy.

  • As the company’s lead representative for sustainability matters, the Sustainability Manager will be expected to build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, accreditation bodies and industry partners whilst promoting DOC Cleaning’s sustainability achievements through both internal and external communication channels. The role will produce sustainability reports, performance updates, case studies and supporting documentation as required and will provide regular updates to senior leadership on progress against company sustainability objectives.

The duties detailed above are intended as a guide to the principal responsibilities of the position and are not exhaustive. The Sustainability Manager will be expected to undertake any additional duties reasonably required to support the company’s objectives and operational requirements. This may include supporting contract mobilisations, client events, audits, tender presentations and other business activities where sustainability expertise is required.
