About the Team
Our product teams work across the customer journey to unlock opportunities that enable commercial growth and build value for customers. To maximise impact, we need to further invest in our design system, evolving it into an intelligence layer that supports AI‑assisted development and drives quality output.
The impact you’ll have
As Design System Engineer you’ll play a pivotal role in elevating product quality and consistency across loveholidays’ customer‑facing experience. You’ll own the design system’s evolution, bridge design intent and frontend implementation, and help teams ship more consistently as AI‑assisted development becomes central.
Additional Info: This role is a 12‑month FTC contract.
Your day‑to‑day
* Operationalise the design system – co‑lead its evolution and governance, build and maintain a robust component library in React/TypeScript, and establish clear adoption standards across product teams.
* Enable AI‑assisted development – define how the design system supports AI‑generated frontend code, reducing rework and improving consistency.
* Bridge design and engineering – collaborate with product designers and engineers to translate design decisions into reusable, production‑ready components.
* Raise the quality bar – review design system features before release to ensure they meet high UX and consistency standards.
* Improve developer experience – partner with engineers to make the system intuitive to use, well‑documented and a genuine accelerant.
* Cross‑functional alignment – work with design leadership, product managers and engineering to ensure the system reflects evolving product priorities.
Your skillset
* Proven experience in design systems work – building, maintaining, or evolving a component library, token architecture and associated documentation in a production environment, supporting multi‑platform delivery.
* Strong frontend engineering skills – expert in React, TypeScript and modern CSS, with experience in industry‑standard documentation tooling.
* Design sensibility – capable of making considered visual and interaction decisions beyond translating specs into code.
* Systems thinker – understanding governance, versioning and adoption across teams without mandating it; anticipating downstream impact and validating at scale.
* Experience with AI coding tools – critically evaluating how component structure and documented guardrails affect AI‑generated output quality.
* Data‑informed – using component usage analytics, adoption metrics, research insights and performance data to guide decisions.
* Collaborative and clear communicator – comfortable pairing with a designer or reviewing a PR, and writing documentation, rationale and migration guides for engineers and designers.
* Deep commitment to web performance – understanding how design system decisions impact Core Web Vitals at scale.
* Deep commitment to accessibility – ensuring travel is open to everyone.
Your portfolio should contain examples of great work and clearly defined outcomes, covering the process and structure behind your achievements.
Desirable
* Knowledge of the travel sector or other D2C e‑commerce environments.
