The Transport Strategy Officer role involves supporting the development of transport infrastructure projects and working with workplaces, developers and other organisations to develop, review and monitor travel plans and deliver initiatives that encourage sustainable and active travel.

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
The Transport Strategy team works to understand future travel trends, develops our transport priorities for the future, and secures funding from external sources which ensures that essential transport infrastructure can be delivered. The team has recently published a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Buckinghamshire, which identifies a future network of active travel links. The team is currently developing a new Local Transport Plan for Buckinghamshire, which will, along with the Buckinghamshire LCWIP and other supporting policies, feed into the new Local Plan for Buckinghamshire and shape the future approach to transport in Buckinghamshire. The team also plays a key role in encouraging sustainable and active travel through travel planning and behaviour change initiatives.
About the role
As a Transport Strategy Officer you will oversee the travel planning process to encourage sustainable and active travel, alongside supporting the development of transport infrastructure projects, including those that are funded by developer contributions. With partnership working being the key to success, you should be enthusiastic about sustainable travel and confident in engaging with and partners and customers to ensure support and positive outcomes.
The role involves:
1. Supporting the development of transport infrastructure projects, including commissioning feasibility work and engaging with partners.
2. Reviewing developer travel plans to encourage sustainable and active transport, ensuring that relevant guidance is followed and deadlines are met.
3. Monitoring progress towards travel plan targets and identifying the measures required to meet them.
4. Working with Buckinghamshire businesses and organisations to provide advice, support the development of travel plans and promote initiatives to encourage sustainable and active transport.
5. Providing professional advice, guidance and support to a range of internal and external customers / stakeholders.
6. Proactively building and maintaining good working relationships and communicating effectively with all stakeholders.
Any-Desk:
7. As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can be from either home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements. The Transport Strategy team have a collaborative working day on Wednesdays in the Walton Street Office.
About you
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about transport and sustainable travel and has excellent interpersonal skills. You will have relevant experience and knowledge relating to transport planning and preferably also an understanding of travel planning. You will have good project management skills and some awareness of political issues and their influence on the decision-making process.
