Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Devices, digital and robotics (NIIHR HRC-DDR), part of Research Development and Innovation at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The HRC-DDR is a research infrastructure funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) who support the development and testing of novel medical devices and health technologies.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Project Research Coordinator to lead and manage scientific aspects of projects within the HRC-DDR. This is a developmental post, appointed at Project Research Coordinator (Band 5), where the successful candidate will work under supervision, receiving guidance and support to develop the required skills and experience to progress to a Project Research Officer (Band 6) upon successful completion of the relevant competency framework.

Working with technology innovators, the HRC-DDR guide partners through the complex regulatory process for medical devices and health technologies by completing human factors usability testing, device functionality testing, health economic evaluations, patient and public involvement work and first in human clinical investigations. The post holder will support and deliver multiple research studies and their associated activities within the NIHR HRC-DDR portfolio.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a key member of the HRC-DDR team and will report directly to the portfolio manager. They will have a key role in delivering multiple HealthTech research projects, working collaboratively across Research, Development and Innovation and the wider UHB, as well as with external partners such as commercial organisations and universities. The post holder will be required to manage several research projects simultaneously, perform external funding applications and proactively monitor internal and external deadlines to collaborator-specific requirements. Using initiative, the post holder will independently manage their workload to ensure project activities are delivered to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) requirements. They will also be expected to produce written reports and presentations to communicate updates on study progress and findings. Day to day, the role demands excellent planning and organisational skills, strong attention to detail, problem solving and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of audiences.
