About the Position
We are currently seeking a full‑time Medical Oncologist Consultant with an interest in breast and thoracic cancers. The role is based in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, with some clinics at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. It is a replacement appointment that attracts 10 programmed activities and an on‑call payment. Newly qualified consultants will be offered 3 SPA's as standard. Applications are welcome from those who wish to work full or part‑time.
BCUHB has three cancer centres staffed by a team of 23 consultants (11 clinical and 12 medical) providing care to the population of North Wales. We take pride in delivering exceptional care through multi‑professional collaboration, ensuring patients are supported throughout their journey.
The successful candidate will be based in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd within the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre (NWCTC) and will also undertake clinics at the Shooting Star Unit, Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The appointee will have an on‑call commitment at the NWCTC on a 1 in 8 basis. We encourage and welcome applications from colleagues who specialise in other tumour sites and will work to create a job plan that is beneficial to the individual and the department. Beyond clinical duties, there are opportunities to contribute to education and research as well as leadership functions.
Key Tasks
* Provide specialist oncological services to the population served, with special reference to the common cancers and agreed oncological subspecialties, and participate actively in multidisciplinary teams.
* Work closely with clinical consultant colleagues to provide seamless cancer care for all patients.
* Collaborate with colleagues in other divisions to ensure an efficient service for patients transferring between disciplines during their journey.
* Liaise with colleagues in Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for oncology patients.
* Develop a site‑specific specialist and research interest, including clinical research and patient enrolment in appropriate national and international studies.
* Participate in collaborative initiatives, upholding clinical effectiveness and evidence‑based medicine.
* Conduct audit and teaching, ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
