We're looking for dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Birmingham Adult Education Service. Working under the guidance of our teachers and Learning Support Managers, you will play a vital role in helping adult learners with a wide range of additional needs access learning, build confidence and achieve their goals.

This is a rewarding, hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You will provide tailored support to learners with disabilities, learning difficulties, mental health needs, and/or barriers in English, maths or digital skills. Whether helping with assessments, adapting learning materials, or offering one‑to‑one support, you'll make a meaningful difference every day.

What You'll Be Doing

* Providing high‑quality support to individuals or small groups of learners
* Using specialist strategies (e.g., BSL, autism support, dyslexia tools) where needed
* Assisting with assessments, progress reviews and learning targets
* Supporting learners in using digital tools such as BKSB, Moodle, MS Teams and other BAES systems
* Helping learners access the classroom environment, including scribing, reading or interpreting when required
* Promoting inclusion, safeguarding, equality and diversity in every interaction
* Working collaboratively with teachers and Learning Support Managers to deliver an excellent learner experience

What We're Looking For

* Experience supporting or teaching adult learners (minimum 1 year)
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
* A confident, supportive approach when working with learners with additional needs
* Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent) in English — and in Maths where relevant
* Good digital skills and confidence navigating IT systems
* Someone organised, empathetic, resilient and passionate about learner success
* A team player who is willing to attend training and adapt to the needs of the service

Why Join BAES?

At Birmingham City Council, we're committed to creating a diverse, inclusive workplace where everyone is supported to be their best. At BAES you will benefit from:

* A welcoming, learner‑centred working environment
* Opportunities for training and professional development
* A supportive team and strong safeguarding culture
* Flexible working considerations
* The chance to change lives through education

Please note: an Enhanced DBS check (Adults & Children's Barred Lists) is required for this role.

Please upload an up-to-date CV and Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. The Supporting Statement should outline how you meet the criteria for the role through your personal qualities, skills and experience and include your motivation for applying to the post. Note the Personal Statement should be no more than 1500 words. Unfortunately, we cannot consider any applications without a CV and Personal Statement attached
