About the people and their home

Wilbury Gardens is a specialist residential care home in Hove, East Sussex, that provides 24-hour support to eight deaf and/or deafblind people who use British Sign Language as their primary language. In addition, the people we support have a range of diverse needs, including learning and physical disabilities, mental health, autism and dementia.

The dedicated team at Wilbury Gardens promotes a culture of person-centred active care with support tailored to each person's own needs, choices, beliefs and personality.

People at Wilbury Gardens are supported in accessing a wide range of therapies, social events and activities and have a dedicated Linkworker who assists with all aspects of a person's care and support from accessing health appointments, emotional wellbeing, social inclusion to goal setting for the future.

Wilbury Gardens provides a varied and diverse activity programme in the home for individuals to join in as well as social events and groups in the community.

Wilbury Gardens is a bespoke deaf home, and communication is an integral part of the care we provide, be it British Sign Language, Sign Supported English, Makaton, or lip reading, communication is a barrier the people we support face daily, and becoming an advocate and committing to learning BSL, will go towards breaking down those barriers in society. Therefore, all team members require a British Sign Language Level 1 Qualification as a minimum. We provide this qualification fully funded with additional Deaf Awareness training provided during your induction.

About you

New to social care? That's OK! As long as you're ready to learn, we provide full training to ensure you can provide the best possible support. In addition to our comprehensive training programme you will receive fully funded British Sign Language Qualification and get to learn a recognised language.

If you have the qualities and interests that align with people we support, we can't wait for you to apply!
