Teaching Assistant – SEND (Autism Experience)

Contract: Full-time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
We are pleased to be working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Chester-le-Street who are seeking a dedicated, caring and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from January.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly Autism, who is passionate about helping children to thrive within a nurturing, inclusive and structured learning environment.
The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, particularly those with Autism
* Support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
* Assist the class teacher with the delivery of engaging lessons and activities
* Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual pupil needs
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using consistent strategies
* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, teaching assistants and senior leaders
* Collaborate with therapists and external professionals where appropriate
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you should:
* Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role
* Have experience supporting pupils with SEND – essential
o Autism experience is essential
* Have knowledge of additional needs such as ADHD – desirable
* Demonstrate patience, empathy and a calm, nurturing approach
* Be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
* Have strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
