Job Title: Occupational Health Practitioner (Part-time hours)

Job Type: Permanent, part–time (22.5 hours per week)

Location: Romford, UK – On site

Remuneration: £30,000 - £32,500


Cpl Life Sciences is collaborating with a growing pharmaceutical organisation that is developing specialty medicines.


The role holder will lead and manage health-related initiatives that promote the well-being, safety, and productivity of our workforce. This role bridges healthcare and workplace safety, ensuring the delivery of high-quality occupational health services and compliance with health and safety regulations.


The role holder will work closely with the HR and HSSE teams to provide professional advice and interventions, supporting employees’ physical and mental health while contributing to a safe and inclusive workplace.


Main Responsibilities & Duties

* Conduct health assessments, pre-employment screenings, and periodic medical evaluations in line with legal and organizational requirements.
* Manage workplace injury cases, including first aid, treatment, and follow-up care, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with statutory obligations.
* Coordinate and support return-to-work programs, advising on reasonable accommodations and rehabilitation plans


Health Promotion and Wellness

* Design and deliver health promotion initiatives such as mental health awareness, smoking cessation, and healthy lifestyle programs.
* Identify workplace health risks and recommend preventive measures to mitigate them.
* Conduct regular training and workshops on health and well-being topics for employees and management.


Advisory and Compliance

* Provide expert guidance to HR and HSSE on occupational health issues, including legal and regulatory compliance.
* Advise on workplace ergonomics, substance misuse policies, and strategies to manage long-term health conditions.
* Support health risk assessments and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to enhance employee safety and health.


Collaboration and Reporting

* Work collaboratively with the HSSE team to integrate health and safety strategies.
* Develop and maintain health records in compliance with data protection regulations.
* Prepare regular reports on occupational health activities, trends, and recommendations for senior management.


Crisis and Emergency Response

* Act as a key resource during emergencies, including illness outbreaks and workplace incidents.
* Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to establish robust emergency medical protocols.


Requirements/Qualifications:

* Registered Nurse with a specialisation or certification in Occupational Health (or equivalent qualification).
* Proven experience in an occupational health role, ideally in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.
* In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, risk management, and workplace wellness initiatives.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees at all levels.
* Strong organizational and analytical skills to manage multiple priorities and deliver effective health programs.
* Experience in mental health first aid or psychological well-being programs.
* Registered Nurse with Part 1 of the NMC Register (usually RGN).
* Previous experience in an occupational health role (ideally 2+ years).
* Experience conducting health surveillance (e.g., audiometry, spirometry, vision screening).


This role is based on site and will be looking after staff working in a manufacturing facility. You will require a driving license.
