We're Hiring: CAD Engineer (Wolverhampton HQ)
Do you love turning ideas into 3D reality? Do you like working with steel, perhaps have experience with hydraulics, CNC machines with moving bits, and like the occasional puzzle that makes you go "hmm"? Are you a generally a cheerful human who doesn't mind mucking in when the sparks start flying (literally, in the factory)?
If so… you might just be our next CAD Engineer
About Us
We're a growing engineering and fabrication group with two hats:
· Structural steel fabrication → making (cold rolled) steel frame buildings, staircases, mezzanines, bespoke steel packages.
· Precision engineering + hydraulics → custom hydraulic cylinders, CNC-machined components, OEM parts, and our own nifty pit jacks for lifting buses & lorries.
We keep things professional, but never boring. Our golden rule: we only employ happy people. If you can laugh, smile, and still deliver cracking work, you'll fit right in.
The Role
This isn't just a CAD button-clicking job. You'll be our go-to CAD champion, steering the design ship and making sure projects flow from idea → drawing → reality.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Running and managing all CAD work and design across the company.
· Producing detailed drawings in SOLIDWORKS and Siemens Solid Edge.
· Helping with pricing and estimating for clients.
· Answering client questions (without too much eye-rolling).
· Travelling to client sites for surveys or technical queries (yes, you get to leave the office sometimes – don't apply if you can't drive).
· Working closely with the MD, Production Manager, and production team members at both our sites in Wolverhampton & Nottinghamshire.
· Occasionally swapping your mouse for a grinder or CNC machine — mucking in with fabrication or site work when the team needs a hand.
About You
We're looking for a do-er, thinker, and smiler rolled into one.
Must-haves:
· Previous CAD experience in a steel fabrication environment.
· Solid knowledge of SOLIDWORKS and/or Solid Edge.
· Understanding of steelwork fabrication AND ideally some CNC/hydraulics knowledge.
· A proactive problem-solver who can figure out "how best to design this in CAD."
· Confidence to talk to clients, production teams, and management without hiding behind emails.
· A happy, positive outlook and a team-first attitude.
· Great attention to detail
Bonus points for:
· Hydraulic systems design experience.
· CNC machining know-how (milling & turning).
· Ability to make tea round without complaining.
What's in it for You?
· Starting salary: of £28,000 per annum.
· A real variety of work (no cookie-cutter projects here).
· Training & support from the MD and Production Manager.
· A team that values smiles as much as skills.
· Occasional trips to Nottinghamshire for that "away-day vibe" (minus the trust falls).
Fun & Enjoyable Workplace
· You've already got the "happy, mucking-in" culture — sell it as a place where people actually enjoy coming to work.
· Stress no toxic politics, no boring grind, just real projects and good people.
Variety of Work (No Monotony)
· Not just stuck at a desk drawing — they'll be in the factory, on-site, solving problems, doing surveys.
· Lots of variety = less boredom. Many CAD jobs are repetitive — yours isn't.
Personal Growth & Training
· Hands-on mentoring from the MD & Production Manager.
· Exposure to steelwork, hydraulics, CNC machining — wider skill set than most CAD jobs.
· "Grow into a well-rounded engineer, not just a CAD jockey."
Responsibility & Recognition
· You'll be running the CAD show for the company — not just "one of ten drafters or CAD Tech #47."
· Direct line to management = voice heard, ideas valued.
· Clear ownership of design.
· Opportunities to design new products from start to finish
5. Stability & Security
· Family-style company, not a faceless corporate.
· Steady pipeline of projects.
· Room to grow with the business long-term.
6. Travel & Hands-On Involvement
· Occasional client site visits + Nottinghamshire trips.
· Chance to step out of CAD and into the workshop/factory.
· You'll be expected to get your hands dirty, on the tools
7. Work-Life Balance
· Consistent hours, work locally most of the time (no long commutes) & flexible hours available, highlight it.
Location
· Based at our Wolverhampton HQ (office + factory).
· Occasional travel to our sister site in Nottinghamshire.
