Scrub Team Leader in General & Gynaecology Cluster (Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners). We are looking for Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners who have substantial experience of working within a General & Gynaecology Scrub Team. You must be proficient in scrubbing for General & Gynaecology cases. Experience of leading the Team on a shift basis is essential. You must be highly motivated, organised, have excellent communication and clinical skills and be able to work effectively alongside the established teams to deliver holistic patient care.
Main duties
* Act as the Team Leader and take direct responsibility for the day-to-day management of a clinical area. Act as a deputy to the Band 7 to facilitate the delivery of effective clinical practice, ensuring that all patients receive the highest possible standard of care.
* Provide expert, patient-focused care in the General & Gynaecology theatre setting in accordance with Trust policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
* Organise and prioritise care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, delivering a high level of care.
* Facilitate effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team and associate departments.
* Demonstrate leadership and act as a professional role model ensuring that a professional approach is maintained by all team members at all times.
* Address members of staff behaving inappropriately and manage any conflict arising in the absence of the Clinical Coordinator.
* Support and educate colleagues including student nurses, student Operating Department Practitioners, medical students and junior medical colleagues.
* Facilitate the Annual Development and Review process for an identified group of colleagues.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Adheres to the NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct at all times
* Demonstrates clinical expertise in the theatre environment
* Manages the clinical workload, coordinating with clinical teams and resolving issues to promote positive team dynamics
* Acts as a resource to others, providing information and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers
* Ensures accurate patient records reflect changes in condition and care needs
* Ensures patients and carers receive timely, sensitive information
* Implements clinical guidelines and supports audits with the Clinical Matron, Clinical Coordinators and Perioperative Education Team
* Maintains high standards of cleanliness and supplies adherence to policies
Quality, Financial and Information Management
* Supports Trust/nursing strategy and high standards of patient care
* Develops competence in recruitment, sickness management and performance management as directed
* Supports risk management and health & safety policies; reports incidents via DATIX
* Contributes to service development and promotes change
* Promotes customer care and assists with informal and formal complaint resolution
* Contributes to cost-effective service delivery and stock management within budget
* Maintains information securely in line with data protection and Trust policies
Staff Management
* Organises unit activity and ensures optimal theatre utilisation
* Responsible for the unit bleep and patient flow, managing problems and conflicts
* Leads in emergencies and mentors junior staff and learners
* Participates in multidisciplinary meetings and acts as a practice assessor
* Supports clinical audit and evidence-based practice
Professional Development
* Maintains clinical competence and keeps up to date with NMC/HCPC standards, Trust policies and guidelines
* Identifies educational needs and participates in appraisal and development
* Supports ongoing education of team members and participates in training initiatives
Working Conditions
* Roles model professional behaviour and adapts to changing theatre needs
* Exposure to distressing situations and potential risks in the theatre environment
* Frequent standing, manual handling, PPE use and shift work
Education/Qualifications
* ODP/RGN with current NMC/HCPC registration
* Awareness of risk management and health & safety in the operating department
Work Experience
* At least 2 years as Band 5 in scrub specialty or relevant experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Knowledge of current practice and National Codes of Standards and Conduct
* Experience leading a team and knowledge of audit
* Awareness of risk management/health & safety, COSHH, manual handling
* Effective communication, documentation, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team

* Flexibility in working patterns and adaptability
