Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity to join University Hospital Southampton as a highly specialist physiologist within the non-invasive cardiology (NIC) services. We are seeking an experienced cardiac physiologist, looking to progress their career specialising primarily in cardiac stress testing and ambulatory ECG monitoring. This specific role will have the additional focus of overseeing training and development and management of the ambulatory monitoring services in the community diagnostic centre (CDC).

The successful applicant will have the relevant experience in:

* Stress testing (ETT and Stress echo)* Ambulator monitory analysis* Tilt testing* ECG* Training

You will perform and manage both clinical and non-clinical duties within the NIC area of a large regional cardiology centre. Your role will include acting as co-lead in this area, sharing the daily lead role, providing expert opinion and specialist advice.

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead on training and development within NIC, mentoring and supervising staff to develop and maintain skills. Develop clear training pathways for junior staff and trainees / students and lead in the assessment of clinical competency within the area, as well as the ECG training for the wider trust.

To lead on the provision of NIC services within the CDC, working closely with the clinical leads, monitoring the day-to-day service delivery of this new provision and suggest / recommend actions for improvement.

To perform the duties of a highly specialist independent practitioner, performing a wide range of complex cardiac investigations on a wide range of patients (adults and paediatrics) with a broad range of pathologies including but not limited to congenital heart disease, inherited cardiac conditions, valvular disease and heart failure. To competently perform, interpret and report on investigations including cardiac stress testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), stress echocardiography, tilt table testing, autonomic function testing, ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring.

To contribute towards on-going service development and improvement, acting as a role model and resource to staff, offering expert clinical opinions and advice. Independently manage one or more of the clinical services.
