Contract Engineering Lead (Civil)
As a Contract Engineering Lead, you will sit at the heart of a complex, high‑impact civil detailing programme within the Sizewell C nuclear power station project, working at the intersection of technical excellence, contract governance, and cross‑functional leadership. You will be based 3 days per week at Aztec West, Bristol.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for the civil detailing contract package, overseeing all technical deliverables and ensuring full compliance with SZC standards and replication principles across the programme lifecycle.
- Drive pre‑contract activities, including supporting the tender process, assessing Technical Appraisal Reports (TARs), and defining contract technical requirements such as the Book of Technical Specifications (BTS), List of Deliverables, Reviews and Controls (LDRC), and the surveillance plan.
- Manage design through all gateway phases (GR0–GRD), from the transfer of HPC information through design development, modelling support and query resolution, while leading key technical reviews including CIHP, GRC and GRD.
- Coordinate and lead technical review teams, oversee major deliverable outputs (DS28, DS26, DS30, DS31) and review supplementary documents, ensuring consistency and capability across all buildings.
- Act as the primary technical interface between the SZC Project Manager and the L3 Detailer, escalating risks, delays and non‑conformances, and supporting configuration control, change management, interface tracking and traceability.
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering design, detailing or technical management within large‑scale infrastructure or nuclear projects.
- Proven experience in contract and design management, with the ability to define technical specifications, manage design governance processes, and drive compliance across multi‑party delivery teams.
- Strong knowledge of nuclear standards, replication principles and configuration management, with demonstrable experience working within regulated environments and managing design risk registers in line with CDM regulations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of acting as a technical interface across complex project hierarchies and effectively coordinating multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
- A collaborative and solutions‑focused approach, with the ability to lead technical meetings and workshops, resolve design queries, and maintain alignment across diverse teams throughout all phases of a major infrastructure programme.
