BSL Teaching Assistant - Brixton Primary School - September Start
Pertemps Education is working in partnership with a primary school in Brixton to recruit a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join their specialist deaf unit from September.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support deaf pupils in a nurturing, well-resourced environment. The successful candidate will assist with communication, learning, and personal development, working closely with Teachers of the Deaf and the wider inclusion team.
Location: Brixton
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience and qualifications)
About the Role:
Support deaf pupils in the specialist deaf unit and mainstream classrooms
Use British Sign Language (BSL) to aid communication, understanding, and access to the curriculum
Work with pupils 1:1 and in small groups to support both academic progress and emotional wellbeing
Liaise with Teachers of the Deaf, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver tailored support
Help create a safe, inclusive, and language-rich learning environment
Contribute to pupils’ social development and independence skills
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Hold at least a Level 1 BSL qualification (Level 2 or 3 preferred)
Have experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired children (in education or care settings)
Be passionate about inclusive education and breaking down communication barriers
Be patient, empathetic, and confident supporting pupils with varied communication needs
Be a strong team player, able to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
Be proactive and open to further professional development Additional BSL training will be provided if required to help develop your skills in line with pupil needs.
