Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage the purchasing function within a bespoke manufacturing environment, ensuring cost-effective procurement of materials, components, and services to meet production and business needs. The Purchasing Manager will develop supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and align purchasing strategies with business goals.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement purchasing strategies to support bespoke and small batch production requirements, cost reduction, and sustainability targets.
* Source, evaluate, and select suppliers in line with quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
* Negotiate commercial terms, contracts, and service-level agreements with suppliers.
* Monitor supplier performance against KPIs (quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness) and drive improvements.
* Work closely with production, and the project management teams to ensure materials availability and specification compliance.
* Forecast demand for materials and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock.
* Report on purchasing performance, cost savings, and supply chain risks to senior management.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in purchasing within bespoke, project-led, or custom manufacturing environments.
* Strong negotiation skills with specialist and niche suppliers.
* Knowledge of sourcing rare materials or low-volume components.
* Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, quality, and lead time in bespoke settings.
* Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate across design, engineering, and production.
