Consultant Community Paediatrician

We have 1 post available for Consultant Community Paediatrician, or Consultant Paediatrician with Interest in Community.
We are a team of 21 consultants, including 6 consultant community paediatricians with 13 acute consultants. We have subspeciality interests across the spectrum of paediatric conditions. Within community paediatrics we also have 2 specialist doctors and 4 speciality doctors, as well as a community higher specialist trainee SpR post. Also part of the community team are a clinical psychologist, assistant psychologist, ASD pathway practitioner, OTs and physios, and we work closely with speech and language therapy and educational psychology partners. There are established pathways for multidisciplinary assessment and management of neurodisability/ neurodevelopmental conditions.
Main duties of the job
Each post attracts 10 programmed activities though we welcome applications for LTFT working and a hybrid post would include at least 3PA community component. The post holder will be expected to:
Undertake the assessment and ongoing management of school age children with suspected neurodevelopmental difficulties, particularly ADHD and ASD.
Take on direct responsibility for the care of children with learning and physical disabilities at a local Special School
Participate in either the existing Safeguarding on-call rota (currently 1 in 7), including for children who are suspected victims of sexual abuse in-hours (additional training is available if required) and child death, or the acute paediatric on-call. The individual contribution could be discussed at pre-interview discussions and would be negotiated at job-planning.
There would be opportunities to participate in diagnostic MDT assessment and ongoing management for preschool children.

There is a planned move for this service anticipated during2026when thisrole and base of work will relocate to Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholders home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCPCH or equivalent
Experience
* Experience teaching medical students 12 months training and/or experience in Paediatric neurodevelopmental assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD and ASD
