We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to support a portfolio of substation build projects across our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering critical energy infrastructure.
Role Overview
As a Freelance Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of substation projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within scope, and budget. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholders across engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of substation construction and upgrade projects within transmission and distribution networks
- Oversee project lifecycle from feasibility and design through to commissioning and handover
- Manage contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure high-quality execution
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and risk registers, implementing corrective actions where required
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including clients, grid operators, and internal teams
- Provide regular reporting on project progress, risks, and performance
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager within Transmission & Distribution, ideally on substation builds (e.g. AIS/GIS substations)
- Strong understanding of high-voltage infrastructure (e.g. 11kV–400kV systems)
- Demonstrable experience managing EPC or turnkey projects
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and contract management experience (e.g. NEC, FIDIC)
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent) preferred
