Job Title: Head of Design
Location: Wakefield
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 per annum
Type: Permanent
We are currently seeking a Head of Design to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Wakefield. This is a senior leadership opportunity to take ownership of an established design function within a company delivering high-value engineered products into industrial markets.
The business has experienced significant growth in recent years and is now looking for a strong technical leader to provide direction, structure, and cohesion across the design team while supporting continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, manage, and develop a small team of design engineers.
Oversee the design and delivery of high-value engineered/capital equipment products.
Translate client requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
Ensure designs meet commercial, technical, and manufacturing objectives.
Drive continuous improvement within the design and engineering function.
Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic growth plans.
Utilise 3D CAD software (Solidworks or similar) to review and guide design output.Skills & Experience Required:
Strong background in mechanical or product design within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
Experience working on industrial or capital equipment projects.
Previous leadership or team management experience.
Proficiency in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD software.
Ability to manage client relationships and technical discussions.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
