Overview
Teaching Assistant – SEND School & College (Autism Specialist). Location: St Helens. Start Date: Immediate Starts Available. Contract Type: Full-Time. Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. This specialist SEND school and college supports students aged 4 to 19 with autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs in an inclusive setting that offers practical, real-world learning experiences.
Role summary: As a Teaching Assistant you’ll be a vital part of a nurturing team, supporting students to reach their potential in classroom, community, and adulthood-focused activities, including hands-on learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
* Support students aged 4–19 in both academic learning and real-life skill development.
* Adapt resources and learning activities to meet individual needs and EHCP goals.
* Assist students with autism in building communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills.
* Engage in hands-on learning activities, including vocational tasks like running the school cafe and garden centre.
* Collaborate with teachers and therapists to monitor progress and contribute to student development.
* Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all learners.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience working with children or young people with autism and/or complex needs (school, college, care or youth settings welcome).
* A calm, patient and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning.
* Enthusiasm for supporting both early years and post-16 learners.
* A proactive attitude with the confidence to work 1:1 or in small groups.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* A genuine passion for helping children and young people thrive.
