We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with strong experience in working with children and/or adults who have Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs.
This role is working with Primary and Secondary children within a school based outside of central Portsmouth.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting students’ mental health. The TA will be working closely with staff and students in order to effectively assist and guide students through any challenges that they may have, as well as support with creating a nurturing learning environment.
Responsibilities:
* Provide one-on-one or small group support sessions for students, focusing on coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-care techniques.
* Assist in the development and implementation of education and healthcare plans for students with mental health concerns.
* Monitor students' progress and communicate effectively with teachers regarding this.
* Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy and safeguarding laws and regulations.
* Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times, and accurately report any concerns.
* Strong behaviour management.
Qualifications:
* Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or mental health setting. We will also consider those with experience supporting adults with similar needs.
* Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in mental health support for students.
School staff will be working term time, from 08:30 – 15:30, Monday to Friday. All applicants will be subject to DBS checks and safeguarding children training.
