Job Title: Secondary School Support Worker
Location: Blaenau Gwent
Hours: 08:30 – 15:10, Monday to Friday | Full-Time (Term Time, Fixed Term)
Contract: Temporary / Permanent (flexibility around you)
Pay Rate: £92.63 per day with opportunities for progression and increase quickly /£14.52 per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistants to support pupils within a secondary school environment. The role involves working closely with students who may face a range of academic, behavioural, social, or emotional challenges, helping them to engage positively with school life and learning.
This role is particularly suited to individuals with transferable skills from youth work, community support, care, or similar backgrounds, who are passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils in lessons, small groups, or on a 1:1 basis
Assist students facing challenges such as behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing, motivation, or attendance
Build positive, professional relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral staff
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom (e.g. interventions, break/lunch supervision)
The Ideal Candidate

Have experience working with young people (e.g. youth work, support work, care, mentoring, outreach)
Possess strong communication, patience, and relationship‑building skills
Can remain calm and positive when supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
Understand the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries
Are motivated to make a positive difference in young people’s lives
Are reliable, flexible, and able to work as part of a team
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential, as full support and guidance will be provided.
