Salary range: £55,000 to £70,000 per annum
Location: Plymouth, Portsmouth, Bristol, Leatherhead
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.
Closing date is 30th July 2025, but early application encouraged.
We are seeking individuals with advanced Maritime/Naval Air domain skills, particularly those with experience integrating and employing Naval and wider Joint warfare capabilities on operations. If you are a former or soon-to-depart Royal Navy Warfare Officer with recent operational experience this might be the ideal opportunity for you to apply your advanced skills in a new context.

Advancing autonomous warfare solutions: Developing advanced autonomous and uncrewed systems to meet the evolving demands of modern naval operations.
Harnessing AI for Next-Gen capabilities: Exploring the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence in future weapon systems and synthetic training environments, shaping the next generation of warfare.
Strategic support to major Defence programmes: Providing specialized technical guidance and design input to flagship programmes including Type 26, Type 31, Dreadnought, and AUKUS, contributing to the future backbone of UK and allied naval capability.
Enhancing Combat System effectiveness: Enhancing the evolution of Combat System functionality to improve defense performance and ensure robust through-life capability management.
The Role
Role
As a consultant in the Frazer Nash Defence & Security business, you’ll work alongside technical specialists to contribute to projects that improve defense operations. Your role would require you to:
Provide operational insight: Apply your specialist knowledge to defence-related projects, offering critical operational context, technical advice, and an end-user perspective to shape impactful solutions.
Collaborate across disciplines: Integrate with our multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and analysts to develop and refine future defense technologies.
Communicate with impact: Produce and review high-quality reports, technical documentation, and presentations to effectively communicate insights to clients and stakeholders.
The Person
We Are Seeking Motivated And Credible Maritime Warfare Professionals, Driven By Curiosity And a Willingness To Advance Naval Capabilities, Who Are Able To Demonstrate The Following Strengths
Operational and tactical acumen: Deep understanding of the maritime operational environment, with the ability to interpret and elucidate complex tactical and operational issues.
Critical thinking and challenge: Capable of questioning assumptions, established practices and doctrine, bringing fresh perspectives and constructive challenge to traditional thinking.
Curiosity and continuous learning: Naturally inquisitive, with an interest in warfare technologies and a genuine commitment to advancing operational capability.
Methodical approach and comfort with ambiguity: Embraces change and uncertainty with confidence, maintaining composure and responding positively to fluid projects.
Candidates will likely be former or transitioning Royal Navy Warfare practitioners, able to evidence the following skills and experience:
Essential
Professional warfare qualifications: Previous attainment of Surface, Submarine, or Aviation Warfare qualifications at the Principal or Advanced levels.
Operational experience: Demonstrable recent, Maritime or Joint operational experience, including time served in an Ops Room environment.
Proficient communication skills: Highly effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical subject matter to diverse audiences.
Desirable (one Or More Of The Following)
Comprehensive understanding of UK and NATO maritime / air doctrine and Tactics, Techniques and procedures (TTPs), with the ability to apply this knowledge in real-world contexts.
Demonstrated experience in maritime/naval air operations planning and execution at the unit level or within headquarters / staff environments.
Background in delivering advanced warfare instruction, tactics development, or specialist training.
In-depth understanding of maritime systems, defense systems integration, and the policy and doctrinal frameworks that underpin their employment.
Experience supporting capability development, acquisition, or in-service management, contributing to the evolution and sustainment of operational capability.
Experience working with or within key Defence organisations such as Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) or Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), with an understanding of their roles in capability delivery.
Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
