Summary
We are seeking a Senior Geophysicist who is highly motivated, inquisitive, and thorough, capable of leading and managing complex geophysical projects. This individual will have in‑depth knowledge of geophysical investigations, a strategic mindset, and a passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge within our growing team.
You will play a leading role in a range of high‑profile, complex projects. You will collaborate with industry experts, mentor emerging talent, and push the boundaries of what is possible in the field of geophysics, all while contributing to research and development efforts that keep Zetica at the cutting edge of the industry.
Responsibilities
* Technical Leadership: Lead design and planning of geophysical surveys, provide input on complex technical solutions at the proposal stage, and refine during project execution. Oversee application of advanced techniques to meet client needs.
* Fieldwork Oversight: Oversee data quality, ensure technical integrity throughout fieldwork stages, conduct site visits as required, support field teams, and lead demanding fieldwork when necessary.
* Advanced Data Analysis: Lead processing, interpretation, and reporting stages, taking responsibility for complex high‑value projects. Review outputs and deliver data‑driven insights to clients and internal teams.
* Quality and Innovation: Maintain high standards of quality assurance, deliver projects on time and within budget, and incorporate innovative techniques where applicable.
* Cross‑Sector Expertise: Lead projects across core departments—transport infrastructure, engineering/geotechnical, geological/environmental geophysical surveys, unexploded ordnance detection, and utility service detection—applying advanced methods and instrumentation.
* Mentorship and Development: Mentor junior staff, provide technical guidance, and help develop skills and expertise of the wider team.
* Occasional Fieldwork: Mostly office‑based, but will undertake occasional fieldwork, primarily in the UK with some international travel depending on project requirements.
Requirements
* Academic Qualifications: A postgraduate degree in geophysics or a related field.
* Experience: At least 7 years of hands‑on experience in high‑resolution, near‑surface geophysical investigations, managing complex large‑scale projects from planning through delivery. Proven team‑leading experience.
* Technical Expertise: Proficiency with ground‑penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetics (EM), magnetometry, microgravity, electrical methods (e.g., resistivity, induced polarisation), seismic methods (e.g., P‑ and S‑wave seismic refraction, surface wave analysis).
* Software Proficiency: Expertise in data processing and interpretation software such as Oasis Montaj, GeoGiga, SurfSeis, Res2Dinv, Zonde, Aarhus Workbench, or similar. Coding experience in Python for custom data processing and automation highly desirable. Proficiency with GIS and mapping tools (AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcGIS, QGIS).
* Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership capabilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present complex technical findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
* Strategic Thinking: Forward‑thinking individual who identifies innovation opportunities and drives research and development within geophysics.
