About us:

Morriston Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Wales with around 720 beds.

The hospital is the regional acute tertiary hospital for South West Wales, offering a range of specialist services, including trauma and orthopaedics, renal medicine, neurology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and it hosts the regional cleft lip and palate service for children and adults.

It offers one of two cardiac centres in Wales and is home to the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, including bariatric surgery (obesity service) for Wales. It also has a modern intensive care unit.

Morriston has one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E or ED) in Wales, and hosts the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service Cymru (EMRTS), otherwise known as the Flying Doctors.

It also provides acute medical beds and a wide range of surgical and urological services, children's wards and a children's high dependency unit. It has a full range of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services, as well as outpatient services.

Secondment for 3 months due to funding.

·A senior member of the Morriston Hospital Service Group, reporting to the Morriston Group Nurse Director.

·Leadership is a key factor to the success of this role, modelling and reinforcing the Health Boards values. Providing strong nursing and managerial support.

·You will be responsible for the implementation of the Quality and patient safety strategy, quality governance arrangements, compliance with CQC standards, the professional leadership of Nursing and AHPs, Safeguarding, Medicines Management and Infection Prevention and Control.

·Supporting assurance around clinical activity, to ensure Morriston Hospital delivers the outcomes and standards that are expected and meets the necessary performance and activity levels.

·You will also support and develop your team, creating an environment where all professionals embrace improvement as an essential element of healthcare. You will demonstrate this through your efficient and positive response when change is needed, re-evaluating decisions in light of new data.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for;

·An inspirational nurse leader, who embraces values-based care, and who is committed to putting the patient first.

·Highly motivated with an engaging style and a passion for service improvement.

·Track record of leading and managing a service with a commitment to investing time and energy into the Hospital/Service Group and the wider Health Board.

·Has proven strategic leadership and up-to-date expertise in clinical quality governance and quality improvement.

·Extensive knowledge of complex and acute services including; staff management and change management.

Person specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Professionally registered as a nurse with current NMC registration.
2. Educated to masters level or suitable equivalent post graduate management training/qualifications or equivalent experience
3. Evidence of ongoing development and education
4. Leadership and / or Management qualification.
5. Extensive knowledge over a range of disciplines e.g. Clinical Research, HR, Finance and Governance underpinned by specialist courses or equivalent experience. This level of knowledge would have been obtained over a significant period of senior management posts held within an NHS organisation.
6. An understanding of the complexity of service delivery in a large organisation.
7. Understanding of strategic planning
8. Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislative frameworks
9. Knowledge of service re-design and its impact/strategic direction for the organization. In-depth knowledge of legislation, national guidance, policies and procedures
10. Experience of working strategically across cross organisational boundaries and chairing multi-agency groups

12. Recognised national project management qualification e.g. Prince 2
13. Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
14. Public speaking and engagement.
