Overview
Assistant Farm Manager - Far Leys, reporting to the Farm Manager, supports management with the aim of maximizing farm performance and ensuring stock produced is of the highest possible standard. Typical working pattern is 48 hours per week, 5 days in 7 (6 when required).
Responsibilities
* Gain a full understanding of poultry in MP.
* Contribute to the department and develop requisite skills in line with the MP competency framework.
* Actively seek to reduce negative environmental impact in relation to processes and procedures, e.g. waste reduction and recycling.
* Liaise closely with the Farm Manager to maintain up-to-date records of birds, food, supplies, etc., ensure adequate stock supply, and carry out correct ordering; ensure weekly returns are made to the office.
* Assist other operations such as vaccinating, bird weighing and catching, and collection; on depletion ensure correct numbers and weights are reported and communicated with other departments to maintain smooth operation through processing and customer satisfaction.
* Apply and uphold all aspects of Company Personnel policy, maintaining fair standards of discipline, good communication, and industrial relations with neighbours and local authorities.
* Be aware of basic first aid and hold the Basic Food Hygiene certificate as per EU ruling.
* Take responsibility for self-development and training in all aspects of farm management to achieve promotion.
* Where applicable, manage, motivate and train the Farm Assistant in all areas of farm operation.
* Maintain communication with the Farm Manager regarding crop performance to ensure efficient performance of each flock.
* Maintain professional integrity and appearance of the farm and dwellings at all times.
* Deputise for the Farm Manager in their absence, including taking charge of a radio pager for alarms and emergency call outs.
* Perform other reasonable duties as required by the Farm Manager.
* Prioritize bird welfare at all times and maintain high standards of housekeeping to keep the farm clean, tidy, and free of litter or weeds, with well-cut grass to present a good company image and reduce vermin risk.
* Manage and monitor ventilation, heating, feed, water, and lighting within agreed guidelines to ensure birds have a high quality atmosphere and welfare is protected; respond promptly to farm alarm calls.
* Have a basic understanding of all farm equipment and liaise with the Farm Manager, Services Manager, and maintenance teams to ensure defects are corrected promptly; perform minor or emergency repairs where safe and competent.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety policies to prevent injurious practices; be aware of personnel on the farm and their activities, especially those working alone or in isolated areas.
* Assist in farm security, ensuring premises are locked and precautions are taken to deter unauthorised entry; receive authorised personnel as required.
