Job Description:
Job Purpose
Great Britain's electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
We are seeking the first Wales Energy Strategic Planning Coordinator to join our growing team. This role will be home-based in Wales until a suitable hub opens, with hybrid working from office and home.
The National Energy System Operator (NESO) will develop Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) for 11 regions across Great Britain. The Wales RESP will consider regional characteristics, integrating renewables, heat decarbonisation, hydrogen, energy networks, transport, and flexibility, reflecting local needs within the national energy plan. A Scotland-based team will work alongside regional and central teams to establish regional energy planning in Wales.
The role involves engaging with local actors and coordinating regional energy planning efforts. Understanding and lived experience of Wales are essential.
Our immediate focus is to build trust with stakeholders, establish processes and methodologies, and develop capabilities in whole energy systems to support local actors and industry in developing credible net-zero plans.
About us
As Great Britain’s electricity system operator, we balance supply and demand to keep electricity flowing where needed, second by second.
In Summer 2024, we will transition to the National Energy System Operator (NESO), responsible for planning and operating the electricity and gas networks, with operational independence from government and regulators, regulated by Ofgem.
Our mission is to shape the future of energy use and consumption across Great Britain.
Key Accountabilities
* Coordinate engagement strategies within your region and with NESO colleagues, including central and regional teams.
* Capture stakeholder views in CRM systems and regional RESP engagement materials.
* Maintain up-to-date engagement and communication plans.
* Design and facilitate workshops and engagement activities with regional stakeholders.
* Draft clear reports and presentation materials for stakeholder engagement.
* Coordinate regional engagement efforts with other teams.
* Understand NESO’s regional energy planning functions when engaging local actors.
About you
We seek experts with:
* Coordination and planning skills to meet deadlines and ensure high-quality outputs.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Experience influencing internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience working within large, complex organizations, ideally in energy or local government sectors.
* Experience using CRM tools for recording activities and insights.
* Strong organizational skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
* Curiosity and willingness to learn about new areas of work.
What you'll get
A salary between £39,000 - £43,000, dependent on experience, plus bonuses, 26 days annual leave, and a contributory pension scheme with employer matching up to 12%. Additional benefits include professional development, inclusive community, and comprehensive rewards covering health, finance, work/life balance, and career growth.
