An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) working as part of the highly specialised MODEL (Metabolics, Obesity, Diabetes, Endocrine, Lipids) dietetic team to provide highly specialised dietetic services to the Specialist Weight Management Service (formerly Tier 3 ).

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced dietitian who has a deep understanding of the complexities of weight management and supporting patients living with obesity.

The role will mainly focus on the weight management in patients both pre and post surgery, working within a multi professional framework and contributing through evidence based clinical practice, management, education, research and audit.

Main duties of the job

* The post holder will lead on the development, delivery and evaluation of the specialist obesity services.
* The post holder will be expected to work independently, offering one to one clinics, group sessions and provide expert support as part of the multidisciplinary team offering specialist services.
* The individual must demonstrate in depth knowledge of the management of patients in this specialist area and will be instrumental in leading on the development and use of evidence based principles in a patient centred way.
* The individual will promote and coordinate a specialist and versatile service that can be delivered virtually and face to face.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Appropriate degree / diploma to post graduate level such as Diploma in Advanced dietetic Practice or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
* Behaviour change / motivational interviewing / counselling skills training
* Strong evidence of CPD (portfolio) with evidence of training in the specialist area of weight management
* Evidence of training/further study relevant to the post
* Member of professional body - BDA Obesity Specialist Group
* Advanced assessment skills
* Further training in motivational interviewing and counselling skills
* GCP training


Experience

* Demonstrate interest in weight management
* Significant experience of weight management treatment programmes
* Significant experience of working in a clinical environment with patients with obesity.
* Proven ability to perform at an advanced level and work independently
* Member of MDT with influential role
* Proven ability to develop and deliver group education
* Experience of audit, leading to service review/ development
* Previous experience in bariatric surgery management
* Experience of clinical researchClinical Point of reference - point of reference for team or wider MDT for a clinical area
* Experience in representing a department at local, regional and national level


Knowledge

* Up to date with current general issues in Dietetics
* Up to date with current weight management practise/ evidence.
* Knowledge of the care needs of patients managing obesity
* Knowledge of medications currently used in weight management pathways
* Excellent understanding of motivational interviewing and counselling skills
* Knowledge and experience of managing obesity related co‑morbidities
* Knowledge of the commissioning process for weight management and medications


Skills

* Must be able to organise workload and prioritise patient care needs
* Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and their carers, with different levels of understanding
* Ability to work with minimal supervision under own initiative.
* High level of Professionalism and ability to be a good role model to others
* Works well in a team and be able to function in clinical situations with many people present.
* Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
* Time management skills, organised and able to manage busy workload
* Be prepared to deal with sensitive issues/ be able to cope with emotional and distressing interviews.
* Ability to work within the hospital setting
* Computer Literate, knowledge of EPIC, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Teams
* Appreciates own limitation
* Ability to support patients who have struggled with prejudice
* Ability to convey opinion on challenging patients within an MDT setting.

* The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
