Product Design Engineer
Location: York
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum
We are seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing company based in York. This role is well suited to someone with a strong automotive or consumer product background who can take ownership of a product from concept through to production, considering both how it operates and how it looks.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop products from initial concept through to manufacture using SolidWorks.
* Take a holistic approach to product design, considering functionality, usability, aesthetics, and performance.
* Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings.
* Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost‑effective.
* Support prototyping, testing, validation, and design refinement.
* Manage design changes and maintain accurate technical documentation.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across product ranges.
Skills & Experience
* 5–10 years’ experience as a Product Design Engineer.
* Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
* Background in automotive, consumer products, or similar product‑led industries.
* Strong understanding of product functionality, user interaction, and aesthetics.
* Experience designing products for manufacture and assembly.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to manage projects independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
* Relevant qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
