The Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) invites applications for a full-time Disability and Neurodiversity Adviser. You will provide specialist advice, guidance and support to current and prospective disabled and neurodiverse students (including students with Specific Learning Difficulties, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Conditions), and staff who support disabled and neurodiverse students. You will also work closely with academic and support staff within university departments and within colleges, as well as with other professional services staff within the University's Student Services Centre. The post-holder will report to the Senior Neurodiversity Adviser and be part of the ADRC's Neurodiversity Team.
You will be qualified at degree level (or equivalent relevant experience) and hold a disability related postgraduate qualification. A qualification in specific learning difficulties or Autism spectrum conditions would be desirable, as would a professional accreditation (such as membership of PAToSS, BDA, or NADP accredited member status, for example). You should have recent relevant experience of advising disabled and neurodiverse students and have an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of legislation, regulatory guidance and debate in relation to disability equality in a tertiary education setting. An understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) would also be an advantage.
You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and expectations, demonstrating a commitment to equality of opportunity. The ability to work to deadlines in a busy support service environment is essential.
