Accountant
Location: Cheshire (Office-Based / Hybrid Depending on Business Needs)
Employment Type: Part-Time, Permanent (16 hours per week +)
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000
About the Role
An established and growing professional services firm is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its team initially 2 days a week with the potential to become 3. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and providing high-quality accounting support to businesses and individuals.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare annual statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
* Complete corporation tax, self-assessment, and other tax compliance work.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns.
* Manage bookkeeping and financial record maintenance for clients.
* Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
* Prepare management accounts and financial reports.
* Support clients with accounting queries and provide practical financial guidance.
* Assist with year-end and month-end processes.
* Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and professional advisers.
* Maintain compliance with current accounting standards and tax legislation.
* Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and client service delivery.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
* AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
* Previous experience within an accountancy practice or professional services environment.
* Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, accounts preparation, and tax compliance.
* Experience preparing accounts for limited companies and sole traders.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Desirable
* ACCA, ACA, or equivalent professional qualification (or studying towards qualification).
* Experience using cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
* Knowledge of UK VAT and corporation tax regulations.
* Experience managing a client portfolio.
