Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
We are seeking a Thermal SME – Battery System to support the concept and M1 design phases for multiple High Voltage (HV) batteries on a new PHEV platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in thermal systems design and development and will be responsible for defining system concepts, performing early-stage evaluations, collaborating with simulation and component teams, and supporting virtual and physical validation activities.
Area of Responsibility
Thermal System Design & Development
1. Lead the concept and M1 design of thermal systems for HV battery applications in PHEVs.
2. Perform initial system architecture evaluations, trade-off studies, and hand calculations (Excel or similar).
3. Develop 1D thermal system models using MATLAB/Simulink (or equivalent tools).
4. Create and review engineering comparison matrices to evaluate multiple system options and recommend optimal solutions.
Requirements Engineering
5. Create and review system and component-level thermal requirements.
6. Ensure traceability of requirements through the design and validation process.
Simulation & Analysis
7. Request, guide, and review 3D thermal simulations.
8. (Optional) Run 3D simulations to evaluate thermal performance, pressure drop, and system behavior.
Component Design & Integration
9. Work closely with internal design teams and external suppliers to ensure components meet overall system requirements.
10. (Optional) Create component models using Teamcenter/NX.
11. (Optional) Manage component development through Tier 1 suppliers.
Validation Planning & Execution
12. Develop and maintain plans for virtual and physical validation of the thermal system.
13. (Optional) Create validation plans for individual thermal components.
14. Review validation data, perform root cause analysis, and troubleshoot performance issues.
Key Experience
15. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or related field.
16. Strong experience in thermal system development for automotive or battery systems.
17. Proficient in hand calculations and system modeling tools like MATLAB, Simulink, Excel.
18. Exposure to 1D and 3D thermal analysis tools (., Simlab, GT-SUITE, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent,).
19. Experience with Teamcenter and NX CAD tools is a plus.
20. Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate trade-offs at the concept level.
21. Excellent collaboration and communication skills, especially for cross-functional and supplier-facing tasks.
