Job Advert: SEN / SEMH Learning Support Assistants – Andover Role: Learning Support Assistant (SEMH) Location: Andover, Hampshire Age of pupils: 6‑11 years old Pay: £13.75 per hour Hours: Full‑time or part‑time considered Who the pupils are Children aged 6 to 11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, all of whom have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP). Small class sizes (usually 7‑9 pupils) with high staff‑to‑pupil ratio to support emotional safety, social learning, and behaviour. What you’ll be doing Supporting pupils both 1:1 and in small groups to manage behaviour, emotions, and social interactions. Helping implement therapeutic and academic interventions to support re‑engagement in learning. Working with class teachers, keyworkers, and specialist teams to adapt learning, support emotional regulation, and build positive relationships. Who we’re looking for We especially encourage applicants who have experience with SEMH or behaviour support, but people from backgrounds such as healthcare assistance, residential care, youth work, or other roles working with children’s emotional or behavioural needs are very welcome. You should have: Empathy, patience, resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Good communication skills and ability to build trust and rapport with children and staff. Willingness to learn and use therapeutic / positive behaviour support strategies. Requirements DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one. Right to work in the UK.
