Welcome to Newcastle’s Newest Neighbourhood!
Freight Island is one of the most exciting, forward-thinking and disruptive food markets in the world. It’s a game changer and more importantly, it has soul.
Established in Manchester, Freight Island is bringing an exciting mix of culture, food, drinks and music to Newcastle. An island above the city, and blurring the lines between a food hall and a festival, Freight’s unique set up reflects the times, the demographic and the city. An urban oasis where guests can enjoy delicious food, great drinks and live entertainment.
It’s a place people can come for a coffee, stay for lunch, meet for drinks or make a whole day and night of it. We specialise in curating an evolving calendar of residencies and menus that span emerging local talent and nationally recognised names, keeping the experiences fresh and engaging. We care about the details. How things look. How they feel. How people move through the space, and what stays with them after they leave.
About the role
We’re looking for a Graphic Designer to join the creative team at Freight Island Newcastle.
You’ll play a key part in shaping how the brand grows. From first thoughts to final artwork, you’ll help build how Freight looks, feels and shows up in the world.
This role spans ideation, brand development and rollout. You’ll work across campaigns, social, signage, menus, decks, partnerships and the day-to‑day design needs of the venue. Big moments. Small details. All of it matters.
You’ll need to be strong across print and digital, organised with your time and confident handling several briefs at once. We’re building at pace, so you’ll need to keep up and keep the standard high.
We’re after someone who’s curious and with solid creative judgement. Someone who wants to make work that people notice, remember and actually feel something from.

* A strong portfolio with brand, campaign and content work in it
* Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; Experience with After Effects or Premiere would be useful
* Confidence working across both print and digital
* Strong typography, layout and artworking skills
* The ability to work at pace and still keep the standard high
* A clear understanding of how design can support brand and marketing objectives
* Confidence working with others, taking feedback on board and managing your own workload
* A genuine interest in food, culture, music and live experience
* Some front‑end web design knowledge would be a bonus
What We’re Looking For
* Culturally aware and creatively driven
* Curious, proactive and full of ideas
* Comfortable experimenting, but know when to keep things consistent
* Good at solving problems
* Excited by fast‑moving, collaborative environments
