Job Overview
The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced risk professional to lead the implementation of the Risk Management Framework and drive initiatives that strengthen our risk culture across the organisation.
Responsibilities
* Champion and maintain the Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with HM Treasury’s Orange Book and organisational needs.
* Lead the rollout of consistent risk‑management processes throughout the organisation.
* Deliver an annual programme of activities to embed good risk practices and foster a proactive risk culture.
* Provide senior leaders with clear, insightful reporting to support strategic decision‑making.
* Build trusted relationships across teams, offering expert advice and constructive challenge.
* Collaborate with other functions (e.g. health & safety, programme management) to integrate risk management into all activities.
* Coach and support team members, helping them grow and deliver with confidence.
* Act as an incident response and business‑continuity partner, available to respond to incidents and support continuity during emergencies.
Experience & Skills Required
* Extensive experience as a technical leader in risk management.
* Comprehensive understanding of the Orange Book and risk‑management principles.
* Proven track record of embedding risk‑management initiatives across multiple teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging senior leaders.
* Ability to build strong, trusted relationships and challenge constructively.
* Experience working in a complex, fast‑paced environment, managing competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
* A risk‑management qualification or relevant professional membership (e.g. IRM).
* Understanding of complementary risk‑based functions such as project/programme management and health & safety.
Location & Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role. The successful candidate can be based at any Environment Agency office, with occasional travel for national meetings and overnight stays. Flexible working patterns, including job share, are welcomed.
