Role Overview:
Marshall Land Systems is hiring skilled Mechanical Assembly Technicians to join their production teams at their site in Cambridge (postcode CB5 8RX). The role is crucial in high-profile military projects involving the production of vehicles and containers. Your ideas and contributions will be valued in a company that prioritizes its people.
Pay Rates: GBP19.69/hour (plus GBP2.89/hour holiday pay, total GBP22.58/hour). Overtime rates: GBP29.54/hour (over 37 hours & Saturday) and GBP39.38/hour (Sunday). Umbrella rates are available; ask for details.
Duration: Ongoing, initially 6-12 months with potential for extension and permanence. Core hours are Monday to Thursday, 7:15 am - 3:45 pm, with a half-day finish on Friday at 12:15 pm.
Duties include:
* Manufacturing, assembling, and building projects using engineering drawings and design data.
* Installing rivets with pneumatic rivet guns.
* Using silicone and sealants with various preparation methods.
* Operating battery and electric-powered drill guns.
* Wearing appropriate PPE and maintaining safety standards.
* Working from engineering drawings, instructions, and 3D models.
* Assembling panels and parts, torquing, and recording work.
* Following health, safety, and company procedures.
* Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
* Working alone or in pairs to meet daily targets.
* Fettling with calibrated tools.
* Recording progress and signing in via computers.
* Inspecting and recording work before passing to the next stage.
* Treating panels with chemicals like Sicoseal.
* Drilling, reaming, and countersinking various materials.
* Supporting production managers and team leaders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
* Understanding configuration control and maintaining production processes.
* Participating in continuous improvement initiatives like lean and 5S.
* Attending production meetings and completing daily timesheets.
Qualifications:
Essential:
* Mechanical, fitting, or joining experience.
* Experience in automotive or heavy industry preferred.
* Experience in vehicle body building, mechanical fitting, or similar trades beneficial.
* Ability to read engineering drawings and understand assembly processes.
* Good communication skills.
Desirable:
* City and Guilds Apprenticeship or equivalent in relevant trades.
* Experience with appraisals/PDRs.
* Semi-skilled candidates with manufacturing/production experience considered.
Suitable backgrounds include coach builders, kitchen fitters, sheet metal workers, fabricators, joiners, shop fitters, and vehicle installers.
