Core Responsibilities
* Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor, providing clear architectural guidance aligned to business outcomes.
* Lead and influence architectural decision‑making across teams, ensuring design integrity, quality, and consistency throughout delivery.
* Apply industry best practices, architectural patterns, and standards to shape pragmatic, sustainable solutions.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, architects, and delivery leads, supporting capability development within teams.
* Collaborate effectively across architecture, engineering, security, and platform communities to deliver cohesive outcomes.
* Support architectural governance activities, including design reviews, assurance, and risk management where appropriate.
* Operate effectively within consulting environments, balancing client needs, delivery constraints, and long‑term sustainability.
Additional Responsibilities for Technical Consulting Architect
* Define application and technical architectures aligned to modern development, integration, and delivery practices.
* Lead the design of application modernisation initiatives, including refactoring, re‑platforming, and cloud enablement.
* Provide hands‑on technical leadership to engineering teams, guiding design decisions and implementation approaches.
* Design and review application and integration patterns, APIs, and platform usage.
* Support non‑functional design considerations including performance, resilience, security, and scalability.
* Produce technical architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, interface designs, and technical standards.
* Collaborate with solution architects, platform teams, and security specialists to ensure cohesive outcomes.
* Support delivery assurance, troubleshooting, and technical risk resolution during implementation.
Qualifications
* Strong background as a Technical or Application Architect within complex delivery environments.
* Hands‑on experience with modern application stacks (e.g., Java, web technologies, mobile, APIs).
* Experience with cloud‑hosted application architectures and DevOps‑aligned delivery.
* Strong understanding of application integration and modern architectural patterns.
* Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, architects, and delivery leadership.
* Experience working within consulting or multi‑client delivery models.
Preferred Experience
* Background in application modernisation or large‑scale delivery programmes.
* Exposure to hybrid cloud or platform‑based architectures.
* Experience coaching or mentoring senior engineers and tech leads.
* Familiarity with quality engineering, automation, or non‑functional design practices.
This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government's Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, which could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
