The Grounds Maintenance Operative/Driver will be responsible for operating tractors and associated machinery, performing grounds maintenance tasks, and supporting winter services as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in grounds maintenance and machinery operation, with a focus on delivering high-quality public services in a safe and efficient manner.
Candidate Responsibilities
As a Grounds Maintenance Operative/Driver, your key responsibilities will include:
Operating tractors and attachments such as mowers, trailers, snow ploughs, and gritters to support council services.
Carrying out grounds maintenance activities including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and verge management.
Assisting with winter maintenance tasks, including leaf clearance.
Transporting materials, equipment, and waste using council vehicles.
Performing routine checks, cleaning, and minor maintenance of machinery.
Ensuring health and safety regulations and council policies are adhered to at all times.
Collaborating with other council teams to deliver a high standard of public service.

Proven experience in operating tractors and related machinery.
Valid UK driving licence (Category B essential; Category C1/C preferred).
Knowledge of grounds maintenance, horticulture, and sports pitch maintenance.
Ability to carry out basic mechanical checks and routine maintenance.
Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
Good communication and team-working skills.
