TeacherActive are working closely with a supportive SEMH school in Bury to recruit an English Teacher who can make a meaningful difference to pupils’ lives through engaging, differentiated teaching and a strong pastoral approach.
About the School:
This is a specialist Secondary SEMH provision catering to pupils who have experienced challenges in mainstream education. Class sizes are small, with a strong team of teaching assistants and support staff. The school provides a nurturing, trauma-informed environment with a focus on emotional regulation, positive behaviour strategies, and tailored curriculum access.
The Role:
Deliver engaging English lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4, with some literacy support and functional skills delivery.
Plan and adapt lessons to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH needs and additional learning challenges (e.g. ADHD, ASD, speech and language difficulties).
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including pastoral staff, SENCO, and support workers.
Promote emotional development and resilience through consistent routines and clear boundaries.
Take a proactive role in behaviour support and restorative approaches within the classroom.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification.
Experience teaching in an alternative provision, PRU, or SEMH school (desirable but not essential).
A trauma-informed and inclusive approach to behaviour and learning.
Strong classroom management skills and confidence in de-escalation strategies.
The ability to build trust, relationships and promote positive communication with young people.
An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and child-centred practice.
