Job Purpose
Supported by Kibble’s Night Service Managers, you will work across Kibble’s Residential and Community-Based Services. Your responsibility will be the safety and well-being of our young people throughout the night, supporting them through times of crisis with the necessary skills and abilities.
Main Duties
The direct work with children and young people involves three main areas:
1. Assessment Phase of the Child or Young Person
* Reading relevant reports and records
* Identifying medical, social, religious or dietary requirements
* Ensuring next of kin are aware of the location, contact details, and visiting times
Ensure that the child or young person:
* Understands the reason for admission
* Is aware of the social and educational programme
* Is shown all facilities
* Understands visiting and contact arrangements
* Knows the rules and regulations
* Knows how to contact staff with concerns or complaints
* Understands their care plan roles
2. The Care Programme
The Child and Youth Care Worker will:
* Be responsible for the care and development of assigned children and young people, with regular review of targets
* Liaise with multidisciplinary team members to monitor progress
* Coordinate with social workers to link social and educational targets
* Meet with families to ensure ongoing contact and cooperation; a driver’s license is essential
3. Recording and Reporting
* Record placement plans accurately
* Provide reports to relevant authorities within required timescales
Worker Profile
The ideal candidate will:
* Relate positively to children and young people, promoting trust
* Respond calmly to aggression
* Understand relationship dynamics and prevent bullying or harmful behaviors
* Establish relationships to detect abuse
* Understand roles of involved agencies
* Work independently and communicate effectively
* Collaborate with external agencies
* Have knowledge of relevant legislation and developmental stages
* Manage relationships and administrative duties effectively
Qualifications and Experience
* HNC in Social Care, SVQ Level 3, or equivalent, or willingness to undertake
* Experience working with vulnerable young people essential
* Experience in social care or residential childcare desirable
* Willing to work across services, including the Safe Centre or Community Based Services
* Possess a full driving license and be willing to drive school transport
Safe Crisis Training (SCM)
Must be physically fit to participate in SCM training.
