The Role
We are looking for an Earthworks Engineering Surveyor to join our team. This is a field-focused role (80% on-site) requiring technical confidence and adaptability. You will be instrumental in supporting digital workflows across our connected fleet, managing machine control systems, and ensuring design integrity on the ground. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, self-motivated, and eager to work with cutting-edge technology in a collaborative setting.
Main responsibilities:
* Install, maintain and monitor 3D machine control systems and site control networks.
* Process and analyse survey data using Trimble GPS and LSS software.
* Support field teams with modelling updates, design reviews, and quality assurance.
* Undertake regular as-built surveys and produce volumetric reports.
* Maintain inspection records and contribute to ITPs using digital tools.
* Assist in deploying AR and telematics systems on site.
* Support UAS/V operations if licensed, including drone-based surveys.
* Promote a positive image of MJ Church and mentor junior colleagues.
We have two vacancies for this role, one surveyor will be covering our Banwell Bypass project, near Weston Super Mare and the other will be on the M3 J9 (near Winchester).
Who you are
You are a detail-oriented professional with a background in civil engineering or land surveying. You’re confident with 3D modelling and Trimble systems, comfortable working in dynamic site environments, and capable of managing data with precision. A team player at heart, you bring initiative, technical knowledge, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Key Skills:
* Proficiency in Trimble Works OS, GPS rover systems, and LSS software.
* Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and digital inspection platforms.
* Experience with machine control, land surveys, and volume calculations.
* Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
* Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Full UK driving licence.
* UAS/V pilot’s licence desirable but not essential.
* Must be based in the UK
