Assistant Director 1 (AD1) - HMP Thameside
We’re seeking an Assistant Director 1 (AD1) to join our team at HMP Thameside, a Category B establishment for adult males, with safety and security at its core.
The AD1 plays a vital role in delivering the contractual elements aligned with Service Specifications and Prison Service Instructions. This role oversees a functional area within the contract, such as Residence, Security and Operations, or Interventions, and may include managing part of the accommodation profile.
You will be responsible for strategic planning and resource management within your area to meet contract objectives. Additionally, you will assume operational responsibility as Duty Senior Manager, handling the prison regime, adjudications, and incident management in line with protocols.

Minimum requirements include being Prison Custody Officer (PCO) certified, experienced in commanding Serious Incidents, and custodial experience to start effectively. Additional responsibilities include:
* Articulating business issues and improvement areas, devising solutions, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement practical action plans.
* Generating innovative, strategic ideas that challenge the status quo.
* Recognizing and reinforcing high-quality work and outstanding performance within the team.
* Maintaining up-to-date Directors Rules detailing procedures for your functional area.
* Driving continuous improvement through quality initiatives like ‘Custodial Blueprint’ and LEAN practices.
* Delivering service requirements as specified in negotiations with the Ministry of Justice within the Annual Custodial Service Delivery Plan (ACSDP).
Required skills and experience
Previous leadership and people management experience are essential, along with a passion for stakeholder engagement with customers, suppliers, and partners. Your ability to influence, plan, and organize to achieve high outcomes will be evident.
You should hold a relevant management qualification at Senior Manager CMI level 4 or equivalent, or possess significant managerial experience in a custodial setting.
