Job Description
The Environment Agency is looking for an Urban Drainage Advisor with sewer hydraulic modelling experience. This role will be part of the national Water Quality Regulatory Development team in the Water Regulation directorate.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development of audit processes for water quality investigations carried out under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM).
* Respond to technical queries and coach staff on sewerage and water quality investigations.
* Collaborate with Environment Agency teams and external organisations to shape new regulatory approaches for sewerage companies.
* Maintain proactive communication with internal and external customers, working effectively across dispersed teams.
* Optionally assume an incident role, providing availability for incident response or business continuity support.
Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant degree in civil engineering, geography or environmental science (alternatives accepted with demonstrated continued professional experience).
* Significant experience in sewer hydraulic and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and the regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational skills, ability to coach others, and experience embedding new approaches into business processes.
* Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining efficient collaboration with geographically dispersed teams.

Interpret data and information to forecast environmental states. Describe sewer or river quality impact models, audit processes, and problem resolution.

Develop, deliver, and implement strategic plans for sustainable environmental protection. Summarise technical knowledge and experience from the wastewater sector.

Use coaching and feedback to develop others. Provide an example of successfully enhancing capability within an organisation.

Design and implement organisational approaches that translate policy into cost‑effective operational activity.
