Join the Canal & River Trust today by becoming a Waterway Ranger. This is a great opportunity to make a significant difference to your local canal waterways by helping keep them clean, allowing wildlife to flourish and everyone to enjoy the health and well-being benefits the canal has to offer.
This role provides a fantastic way to learn more about canals and what’s involved in maintaining them.
Why we want you
As a Waterway Ranger, you'll be the face, eyes, and ears of the Trust. Having a friendly, regular presence on the towpath is important for visitors and supporters and helps us care for and sustain our network for future generations. We need your support to be there for our customers. You'll assist with visitor experience at some of our most beautiful sites and may also work in more remote, niche environments, learning more about our waterways. Your support in maintaining our network will help us achieve our goal of keeping canals alive.
What you will be doing
1. Talking to customers
2. Reporting issues from the towpath
3. Helping customers
4. When you register as a volunteer, we will ask about any unspent convictions which you need to declare and will conduct a risk assessment as needed.
The skills you need
1. Great communication skills – this role is all about talking to people.
2. Practical skills – including minor maintenance to ensure locks and other features are functional.
3. Teamworking skills – while you may spend some time alone, you are fundamentally part of a team.
What's in it for you
* It's a great way to meet other local volunteers, learn new skills, and discover more volunteering opportunities if you wish to get more involved.
