The role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 5 Physiotherapist to work as part of our friendly and experienced team in the MSK Physiotherapy Service within NHS GG&C. The post holder will take responsibility for a designated clinical caseload incorporating patient triage, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge from physiotherapy care. They will work within a multi-professional setting to ensure co-ordinated care for patients and carers as an experienced clinician, work mainly with musculoskeletal patients. The post holder will further enhance clinical and organisational skills to meet the needs of patients and the organisation.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

* This MSK Physiotherapy post is located within Greater Glasgow and Clyde initially based within West & Clyde Quadrants
* Please note there may be a need to work in East or South quadrants in the future
* The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday.


Key responsibilities:

* Professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work including direct and indirect patient care
* Triage, prioritise and manage an unpredictable patient group effectively and efficiently. Self Referral allows patients to self refer to the service, referrals are also accepted from GP’s Consultants and other Heath Care Professionals
* Identify those patients with the risk of serious pathology who require urgent referral to other services e.g. A&E, G.P. and back pain service and appropriately manage the ongoing referral.
* Use clinical reasoning skills to assess, analyse both clinical and non-clinical information and provide a comprehensive clinical diagnosis for individual patients to determine their need for clinical intervention. This will include patients with multiple pathologies, complex clinical presentations and in difficult clinical environments.
* Act independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise their rehabilitation potential – including decision making regarding discharge from care
* Work within a legal framework to assess capacity, gain valid consent for treatment from all patients
* Manage an identifiable caseload of patients effectively and efficiently
* Liaise with more experienced Physiotherapist to gain support and direction in management of more complex patient presentations within their caseload
* Work as part of a multi-professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care –this may involve contact with students
* Actively participate and contribute to the Physiotherapy Departmental in-service training, clinical support and CH(C)P protected learning time programmes to promote personal development
* Maintain a professional portfolio as evidence of continuous professional development
* Assist in the teaching of other members of the multi-professional team, educational staff and others (e.g. relative and carers, voluntary sector) to promote knowledge of physiotherapy management to enhance patient care
* Assist in the clinical training of undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students.
* Assist with the clinical training and education of support workers in the specialty


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

* Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
* Current HCPC registration
* Post graduate experience in MSK and interest in MSK specialism
* Relevant post graduate training – regular in-service training and post graduate courses e.g. muscular-skeletal, joint assessment/management
* Demonstrable advance in clinical skills identified in CPD diary
* Working knowledge of basic IT – e.g. word processing, use of internet, data bases
* Updates to meet mandatory and statutory requirements e.g.
* Moving & Handling
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
* Fire Safety
* Adult and Child Protection
