We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior IT Specialist to join our Digital Department. This senior technical role is responsible for maintaining and supporting NHS Dumfries & Galloway’s complex computing, voice, and data communication infrastructure. You will ensure high availability, security, and resilience of critical clinical and corporate systems across a region‑wide network, supporting approximately 5,000 users and 400+ servers.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist support for Local and Wide Area Networks across NHS Dumfries & Galloway.
* Deliver expert support for server environments including Microsoft Server, VMware, Unix/Linux.
* Manage and maintain Cisco network, wireless, telephony, and firewall technologies.
* Lead planning, configuration, installation, and optimisation of network and server infrastructure.
* Implement, maintain, and test disaster recovery and backup procedures.
* Conduct proactive monitoring to ensure availability, security, and performance of IT systems.
* Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical leadership to User Support and IM&T colleagues.
* Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, system inventories, and audit trails.
* Liaise with external contractors, vendors, and NHS stakeholders to ensure controlled delivery of services.
* Support enforcement of IT security policies and best practice standards.

This person will have a deep understanding of networks, servers, and security, combined with a calm, methodical approach to resolving critical faults. They should be adaptable, self‑motivated, and committed to continuous learning, with the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
