Our Shared Lives and Short Breaks service in the Scottish Borders is looking for caring individuals to become Shared Lives and Short Breaks Carers. This role offers a chance to make a real difference in the lives of people who need support.
The Role
Shared Lives provides short breaks, transitional, and long‑term arrangements for individuals aged 16 and over who require care and support due to disability, conditions, or support needs. In this role you will support the individual in your own home, within your family and community life, often helping them become part of your family.
Responsibilities
* Provide care and support to individuals aged 16+ with disabilities, conditions, or support needs.
* Support the individual within your own home, family, and community life.
* Receive a generous allowance and assistance with household costs.
* Receive ongoing support from a dedicated link worker, including regular visits, training opportunities, and 24/7 on‑call assistance.
* Participate in the Shared Lives team’s assessment and matching process, and attend regular visits from the team to ensure you feel happy, confident, and supported.

* Have a spare room, time, and a passion for making a difference.
* Demonstrate patience, empathy, a sense of humour, and the ability to positively impact others’ lives.
* Be open to welcoming someone into your home and family life.
Checks and Process
All Shared Lives Carers undergo mandatory checks as part of the assessment process. These include an application form, home visits, an interview with our assessment panel, participation in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme through Disclosure Scotland, and, if applicable, provision of a criminal record certificate if you have spent more than 12 months out of the UK (excluding France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, or Spain) within the last 10 years while over the age of 18.
