Your role at a glance
As the Building Services Engineering Apprentice, you will be part of the LON1 Operations team, reporting to the Data Centre Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your career in the dynamic Data Centre industry. You will gain hands on experience and knowledge of data centre best practice including hardware management, installations, implementation, support and monitoring. This role will have 80% on the job training and 20% college attendance at a local college enabling the attainment of a recognized qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review designs and installation controls for heating and ventilation systems and understand how to operate and control
* Review plans using CAD and building information modelling software to optimize and refine design proposals, working to agreed quality standards, project programme and budget, within legal, contractual and statutory requirements
* Ensure jobs meet building regulations, health and safety requirements, assessing and controlling risk, working with health, safety and welfare legislation and best practice
* Coordinate the work of technicians and craftspeople and support with commissioning, organizing and assessing the work of contractors
* Assess the life cycle of buildings and their component services to minimize resources consumed and the impact on the environment to promote continuous improvement by using market intelligence and best practice
* Use a sound, evidence-based approach to problem solving to develop building services engineering design solutions which maintain and enhance the quality of the environment and community and meet client, financial and safety objectives
* Focus on sustainability including the dynamic thermal performance of buildings, energy resources, combined heat and power, wind power generation and lighting and electrical systems
* Assist with installation and maintenance work through overseeing and specifying maintenance and operating procedures
* Estimate costs, present ideas and produce progress reports, as well as manage budgets by forecasting spending and ensuring work is kept to budget
Your Profile:
* Interest in the data centre environment, and specifically either IT, network, security or mechanical and/or electrical engineering
* Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team (internally and externally)
* Computer literacy, comfortable with MS Office 365
* Enthusiastic, eager to learn, proactive, strong sense of ownership, determined and flexible to adapt to a dynamic environment and demand from the client or supervisor
* Proven ability to navigate and learn quickly in ambiguity
* A Level BBC - Must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 112)
* T-level (Merit or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning. (UCAS points: 120)
* BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. (UCAS points: 128)
* BTEC Level 3 National Diploma D*D* in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. (UCAS points: 112)
* Building Services Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship DD (UCAS points: 96) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA, please get in contact with the LSBU Apprenticeships for Apprenticeships Routes
* Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above)
* To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2019 standard
